GLENDENING RECALLED, TWO TO TOLEDO
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Monday recalled center Luke Glendening from the Grand Rapids Griffins and reassigned defenseman Richard Nedomlel and left wing Marek Tvrdon to the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye from their AHL affiliate.
Glendening, a 24-year-old native of East Grand Rapids, made his debut with the Wings on Oct. 12 versus Philadelphia, when he became the 133rd Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound forward has appeared in five games with the Wings, posting six shots on goal and two penalty minutes. Glendening has also skated in five games with the Griffins in his second professional season, producing three points (1-2—3) and eight penalty minutes.
After beginning his first pro season last year with the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye, recording 21 points (14-7—21) in 27 games, Glendening was recalled to Grand Rapids in December and produced 26 points (8-18—26) over 51 regular season contests. A key cog in the Griffins’ run to the Calder Cup, Glendening appeared in all 24 playoff games and tied for third on the team and first among AHL rookies with 16 points (6-10—16).
Tvrdon, 20, has appeared in one contest with Grand Rapids this season, posting three shots on goal in an 8-1 victory over the Rochester Americans on Oct. 4. Before joining the Griffins, Tvrdon spent three seasons with the WHL’s Vancouver Giants from 2010-13, where he tallied 107 points (45-62—107) in 90 games. The 2011-12 season was his only full-time stint with Vancouver, having endured season-ending injuries during his other campaigns with the team.
Nedomlel, 20, spent three seasons with the WHL’s Swift Current Broncos from 2010-13, registering 84 points (17-67—84) and 295 penalty minutes. The six-foot-five, 231-pound defenseman has not appeared in any games with Grand Rapids this season.
The Red Wings begin a four-game road trip this week that includes three games in four nights. Detroit will face the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. EDT, when Glendening will be available to play.
The Griffins (4-2-1-1) will host the Charlotte Checkers on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a rematch of the team’s 5-0 loss to the Checkers at home on Friday.
