Newsworthy
23 – Despite playing in only 46 games, Hronek placed fourth among NHL rookie defensemen in points (23) and had the second-best points-per-game average (0.50) of any first-year defenseman (minimum five games played), trailing only Buffalo's Rasmus Dahlin (0.54).
28 – Hronek racked up 28 PIM in the postseason, ranking fourth among AHL defensemen.
171 – Hronek became the 171st Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL when he made his debut with Detroit in the team’s season opener, 10/4/18 vs. CBJ. Hronek picked up his first NHL point on an assist on 10/11/18 vs. TOR and scored his first NHL goal on 10/13/18 at BOS.
2 – Hronek scored the overtime winner in two consecutive games (Nov. 24 at CHI and Nov. 26 at IA), becoming the first player in franchise history to record an overtime goal in back-to-back contests. Two OT goals tied for the third most in a single season in franchise history.
2 – For the second consecutive year, Hronek represented the Czech Republic at the IIHF World Championship. Hronek’s 11 points (3-8—11) in 10 games were the most among the tournament’s blueliners and he was named the tournament’s best defenseman.
4 – Hronek’s four power play goals tied for 14th among AHL defensemen and led all team blueliners.
4 – Hronek concluded the NHL season on a season-high four-game assist and point streak (March 31-April 6), collecting five points in that span (1-4—5).
8 – From Nov. 23-Dec. 7 with Grand Rapids, Hronek logged an eight-game assist and point streak, both of which set career highs and were the longest by a Griffin this season. His eight-game assist streak equaled the Griffins’ record which was established by center Valtteri Filppula from March 26-Oct. 13, 2006. His eight-game point streak matched Bryan Helmer (Feb. 25-March 14, 2006) for the longest single-season point streak by a Griffins defenseman since 1999-00.
:56 – With Grand Rapids trailing Manitoba 1-0 late in the third period on Feb. 6 at Van Andel Arena, Hronek came to the rescue by scoring two power play goals in a 56-second span to help the Griffins to a 2-1 victory. He lit the lamp on a 5-on-3 advantage at 18:39 and then again, this time on a 5-on-4, at 19:35.
Defenseman Filip Hronek split his second full season in North America between the AHL and NHL, tallying 24 points (7-17—24) in 31 games with the Griffins and 23 points (5-18—23) in 46 appearances with the Red Wings.
