BY THE NUMBERS: TOM McCOLLUM

With Grand Rapids’ 4-2 win on Feb. 2 at Cleveland, goaltender Tom McCollum earned his 110th career victory as a Griffin, surpassing Joey MacDonald for first place in franchise history. Let’s go by the numbers for McCollum’s career (all stats through Feb. 2):

3 – The date in October 2009 when he made his AHL debut. McCollum made 23 saves in Grand Rapids’ 3-1 win at Peoria in the 2009-10 season opener.

3 – The number of times he has been Grand Rapids’ AHL Man of the Year nominee, the only three-time nominee in franchise history (2014-16). McCollum has been a tremendous supporter of the Grand Rapids community during his eight years as a Griffin, as he frequently visits local Boys & Girls Clubs and hospitals in addition to hosting a clinic for goalies in the Griffins Youth Foundation.

6 – Number of teams McCollum has played for in his pro career, including Grand Rapids, Detroit, Toledo (ECHL), Charlotte (AHL), Stockton (AHL) and Adirondack (ECHL).

7 – Career shutouts as a Griffin, tying for sixth in club history.

18 – The 18th of January 2015 is the date McCollum recorded his first NHL victory. He earned the win while playing 39:40 in relief, as the Red Wings rallied from a 3-0 deficit at home against Buffalo to win 6-4.

30 – Overall selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by Detroit. A Sanborn, N.Y., native, he was the second goaltender taken in the first round and the first American-born goaltender chosen.

110 – Career wins as a Griffin, the most in franchise history. He surpassed Joey MacDonald (109), who played in Grand Rapids from 2002-07 and 2010-12.

117 – McCollum became the 117th Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL when he debuted with the Red Wings on March 30, 2011 vs. St. Louis. He has played in three career NHL games and is 1-0-0 with a 2.98 GAA.

244 – Goaltender games played as a Griffin, the most in franchise history. Including skaters, 244 games ranks 22nd on the team’s all-time chart.

275 – Approximate miles P.C. Labrie of the rival Milwaukee Admirals drove while using McCollum’s truck earlier this season, so he could witness the birth of his first child. Click here for the full story on Tom’s generosity.

2013 – McCollum was a member of Grand Rapids’ first Calder Cup championship in this year and has his name engraved on the Cup.
